April 2024 Cedar Award: Flora and Leo Wong

Flora and Leo next to each other with a quote saying: Leo and Flora are thoughtful, skilled, caring and committed educators who provide outstanding service to learners and the family practice program.

This month, we are proud to highlight Drs. Flora and Leo Wong as the recipients of the Cedar Award. See below for what Bill Upward, Teaching and Learning Strategist, had to say about them and their contributions to the Department of Family Practice.

From Bill:

Drs. Leo and Flora Wong of St. Luke Family Practice in Langley are exceptional teachers and humans. They consistently take on family medicine learners and provide [each one of them] with a customized learning experience that gives them the best chance to be successful. Their regular use of direct observation, coupled with robust performance feedback, really helps learners know where they stand and what they can do to get better. The field notes and In-Training Assessment Reports (ITARs) that Leo and Flora submit are thoughtful and comprehensive, providing the residency program with excellent data to track resident progress and make confident promotion decisions.

Despite already being excellent preceptors, Leo and Flora regularly attend faculty development sessions to continue upping their game, and also dedicate time to other important roles, such as serving on the Surrey South Fraser’s Site Level Competence Committee and the central program’s Resident Selection Committee.

Leo and Flora are thoughtful, skilled, caring and committed educators who provide outstanding service to learners and the family practice program.

We can’t thank you both enough!
