Site Faculty for Academic Curriculum — Indigenous Site

Qualifications

  • Member/ Certificant of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • Eligible for licensure in BC
  • Educational experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching and working with residents
  • Knowledge of the current requirements of training and examination for family practice residents is an asset
  • Administrative experience is preferred
  • Knowledge or connections to Indigenous Medical Education leaders, organizations or resources would be helpful
  • A deep understanding of the impacts of colonization, institutional and structural racism, and biases have had on society, in particular Indigenous people. Ability to commit to upholding cultural safety, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Indigenous candidates and/ or Indigenous Site alumni would bring valuable lived experience to the position and will be given preference
  • The Indigenous Site is unique in its two-eyed seeing approach to Academic Curriculum. Incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing and being is required in all aspects of curriculum.

Responsibilities

To be familiar with the accreditation standards outlined below:

  • CFPC “Red Book” (see CFPC accreditation webpage) and
  • Conjoint RCPSC-CFPC-CMQ General Standards of Accreditation (see CFPC Accreditation webpage) 
  • The CFPC Triple-C Curriculum and the CanMEDs-FM roles (see CFPC website).
  • Family Medicine Professional Profile and any emerging documents from the CFPC related to the Outcomes of Training

Together with the Site Director(s), Elders, and Site Admin; the Academic Curriculum Site Faculty is responsible for:

  • Attendance at the majority of Academic sessions (currently two consecutive days quarterly, with intention to move to gathering more frequently and/or for longer periods during our curriculum reform)
  • Ensuring that the academic curriculum at the Site meets the learning objectives set by the program as well as the accreditation guidelines of the College of Family Physicians of Canada
  • Lead strategic planning of the Academic curriculum and recruiting of lecturers to deliver lectures and workshops, as deemed appropriate to the content.
  • Examination of the existing academic curriculum to identify gaps or opportunities to gain required competencies and concrete action plans to correct said identified gaps, in conjunction with the Site Director(s)
  • Implementation, monitoring and quality assurance of the academic curriculum and exam prep process at the site, including evaluations and feedback of lecturers
  • Active collaboration and regular communication with Site Faculty for Behaviour Medicine and Scholar EBM Research to ensure content adequately represented in Academic scheduling.
  • Acting as a resource to teaching faculty and residents in the area of academic curriculum and exam preparation
  • Active collaboration and regular communication with the applicable site coordinator regarding the support of pertinent tasks.
  • Regular communication with the Site Director(s), to ensure that the “Learning Cycle” is optimized.
  • Providing information to the Clinical Competence Committee in regards to resident performance in exam situations
  • Attendance at and participation in the Site Resident Training Committee meetings and other relevant functions as required.  (Some travel may be required to attend meetings/retreats)
  • Working with Site Director(s), Coordinators and Faculty to address issues related to previous and upcoming Accreditation
  • Ensure regular representative attendance at and participation in the program-wide Curriculum and Assessment/ Evaluation Tele-/video-conferences and Retreats with a view to:
    • sharing information and resources
    • reviewing, revising, and (re)writing objectives and other program-wide academic and exam preparation program
    • creating new program-wide resources
  • Work with our partner site to support the Assessment and Evaluation portfolio that includes SOOs, SAMPs and OSCEs (if required) for site residents in preparation for the certification exam (and eventually our own site A&E faculty lead, once hired).

Remuneration

Per Annum: $35,000 – equivalent to 1 day per week (0.20 FTE)

Appointment to Clinical Faculty in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia.

Reporting

The Site Faculty for Academic Curriculum reports to the Site Director(s), the Lead Faculty for Curriculum and ultimately, the Program Director for the UBC Family Practice Program.
